All DreamCatcherHDRI images are now available in 32k!

32k, or a 536 megapixel image that has 4 times the pixels of our initial 16k images. At this definition, the amount of detail is astounding. The smallest billows of clouds are visible and on mountain images, one can make out the evergreens’ branches. Just as in nature, this overabundance of detail creates the realism.
These images can now handle a 3D camera with a 100mm lens (equivalent to a 24x36) in full HD without degradation or a blurry effect due to a lack of definition. You can even zoom with a 200mm or 300mm lens if you use depth of field or motion blur.


ZDepth images associated with each RGB image


Every DreamCatcherHDRI image comes with its corresponding cloud and ground ZDepth images.

These ZDepth images provide new options as well as more control during compositing. For instance, they make it possible to create depth-of-field FX, mask FX to pass objects through the clouds, color-correction FX based on distance, fog FX, and much more. The ZDepth images have the same definition as their associated RGB image (8k, 16k or 32k) and a 32-bit color depth.

Eridia, creator and owner of the brandname DreamCatcherHDRI, has honed their skills and expertise in the field of photorealistic CG environments. Over time, these skills have been further refined in response to demands and specifications of clients in search of physically correct and ever more realistic images. Today, Eridia has developed a database of high-definition environments which enables the studio to reconstruct any weather condition anywhere on the globe, at the time of day and altitude of their choice. This database produced the images found on the DreamCatcherHDRI website. They are the culmination of years of experience, a proven workflow and the latest in rendering technologies.

DreamCatcherHDRI images combine adaptability and simplicity for seamless integration. They enable the automatic synchronisation of the 3D camera’s movements and focal-length variations. They ensure the proper management of transparency and reflections. They automatically adjust multiple sources of light that an aerial environment can produce, whether direct light, such as the sun, or multiple indirect lights, such as the horizon, sky or clouds. This mode of lighting guarantees the perfect integration between any 3D objet in the scene and the background, with a photorealistic result.
Thanks to the richness of their content, each map offers a great number of possibilities of angles, lighting and atmospheres. Furthermore, all DreamCatcherHDRI images are of excellent quality, free of noise and vignetting.
They are also free of lens flare, blurriness and color chromatic aberrations, allowing for the addition of these effects, which can then be animated during post-production.

The primary objective of DreamCatcherHDRI images is to faithfully reproduce earthly weather conditions

Our maps scrupulously respect exposure values produced by the sun depending on the time of day. In a single image, the amplitude of exposure can range from -6 EV to +16 EV, which corresponds to earthly lighting conditions.
The types of clouds (cumulus, cirrus, stratocumulus, etc…) are recreated with their respective sizes, shapes and altitudes. Different types of atmospheres are produced with their wavelengths corresponding to the air’s density and the sun’s position. The light’s behavior in the atmosphere (translucency, accumulation, dispersion) is adjusted with care, allowing to obtain light, cottony clouds that are pearly and translucent. This photorealistic result is further enriched by esthetic choices so that our environments remain pleasing to the eye.
This rigor and demanding level of excellence are necessary in order to gurantee quality scenes for our clients.

DreamCatcherHDRI images follow a logic of creation that simplifies their use in particular for film production.


Each meteorological environment is rendered at different altitudes or times of day, allowing to preserve the visual coherence of a scenario that requires scenes at various altitudes throughout the day.

For each of the DreamCatcherHDRI images, the sun is always positioned in the center of the map along a vertical line, allowing to pass from one map’s lighting to another seamlessly.

Our versatile maps suit both the 3D and 2D worlds


DreamCatcherHDRI images are compatible with all 3D and CAD software, for realistic lighting of scenes using the IBL (Image Based Lighting) technique. They also suit both still images and animation. Their integration within a 3D scene takes merely a few clicks of the mouse.
The elevated definition of DreamCatcherHDRI images means they can be used equally in the making of still or animated 3D backgrounds.
Lastly, they can be used for matte painting and, more generally, for the composition of high-definition 2D images.

In terms of Linear Workflow Color Management, DreamCatcherHDRI environmental maps incorporate themselves perfectly into that of any renderer and modern 3D, CAD, CAM, DCC, VFX software, to obtain accurate colors throughout the creation process of your images.

DreamCatcherHDRI images are available in 8k (8,192 x 4,096 pixels), 16k (16,384 x 8,192 pixels) and 32k (32,768 x 16,384 pixels). Every DreamCatcherHDRI image comes with its corresponding cloud and ground ZDepth images. All of our images are equirectangular with a depth of 32 bits per layer. Our images possess an amplitude of exposure of over 22 EV. All our images are available in .EXR format. DreamCatcherHDRI images are compatible with all 2D/3D packages on the market and all existing renderers.
